Year 2 - Pen Morfa

Welcome to Pen Morfa. Many of the routines that the children are familiar with carry on from Year One, with the addition of new and exciting age-appropriate activities. We enjoy singing and music, we learn the Welsh National Anthem to sing at the end of the day. We also support our school community, for example, by selling apples grown in our school orchard to raise funds for the school and a local charity.

Our class teacher is Mrs Sian Bratch.

A typical day

After the register, morning activities include maths and language work. We use Read, Write, Inc to develop and practise spelling patterns, alongside Reading Eggs and Easy Maths. We continue to use Fflic and Fflac, as well as Stori Sam, to promote and practise Cymraeg.

Every morning the class comes together with Dosbarth Sali Mali, Dosbarth Jac Do and Dosbarth Yr Wyddfa for an assembly, where we discuss different topics. On Thursday we have our “Seren yr Wythnos” assembly, with our Cymro / Cymraeg award as well. Then the whole school assembly is on a Friday.

In the afternoon, depending on the day of the week, the children will be doing either P.E., music, creative or thematic work.

We have COOL (Choosing Our Own Learning) time in Pen Morfa, to encourage the children to work independently. Staff work with a focus group of children.

The children can earn Raffl tickets for good work, behaviour, perseverance, concentration and thinking outside of the box. The greater the number of tickets earned, the more chance they have of winning the Raffl at the end of the week!
